Hermina
Hermina loved anything about movement whilst growing up, with her poor mum taking her to a different activity most nights; athletics, ballet, tap, cross country. Weekends were normally spent mucking out horses in turn for a free ride. Pursuing her passion, she got an A at GCSE in Physical Education, but sadly, the A’Level wasn’t available, and she was encouraged down a more ‘academic’ route. Joining the British Forces Broadcasting Service as a Journalist and Presenter, she could indulge her passion fully alongside Servicemen and women, for which sport was a big part of their life. Winning ‘SuperFit’ competitions, first ladies’ team in an official March & Shoot and competing in the 4-day canoe race through Belize – La Ruta Maya.
It ended abruptly when knee pain just made everything uncomfortable, to the point of coming down the stairs backwards. Hermina was diagnosed with arthritis in her early 30s and told not to do anything that hurt. Stopping all activity, she put on weight and well…felt down.
Hermina had a once in a lifetime opportunity to work alongside the Director of a cutting-edge, award-winning documentary about treating people with Parkinson’s, a disease that robs you of movement. After seven years following the most amazing people, she was so inspired by their mental fortitude, despite this dreadful disease, she decided to focus the rest of life celebrating the movement she had and sharing it with as many people as possible and qualified as a Personal Trainer.
Hermina has since competed in a Strong Man competition and came second, learnt, and taught aerial silks and is about to compete in her fourth Triathlon.
Lockdown provided the opportunity to hone her skills by studying under Dr Stacy Sims a leading voice and game changer in the world of female fitness and nutrition. Hermina has made Peri to Post Menopausal women her core clientele, teaching and proving that this second phase of life can be so much more than we could ever imagine and for many, the best is yet to come!!
